EMPLOYMENT

September 2003 - present: Free lance translation, interpretation, editing, and writing.

Clients include foundations, development organizations, academic institutions, non-profit and advocacy groups and Washington D.C. community organizations among others. Medical interpreting for La Clínica del Pueblo and CASA de Maryland.

September 1997 - August 2003: Co-Director/ Program Director, Ecumenical Program on Central America and the Caribbean (EPICA). Washington, D.C.

Co-director of EPICA and Director of various programs for education and advocacy. Edited, translated, and produced educational resources. Led travel seminars to Central America and the Caribbean. Organized and participated in advocacy campaigns on human rights and social justice issues. Raised funds and led EPICA"s organizational and board development.

February 1995 - July 1997 Language Instructor, Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington.

Taught elementary and intermediate Spanish courses, emphasizing grammar, conversation and culture. Full teaching loads from September 1995 to May 1997. Also taught English as a Second Language for several months through the Intensive English Language Institute (American Cultural Exchange) on PLU campus.

January 1992 - December 1994: Adult Educator and Social Worker, Centro Hogar Day Care Center, San Salvador, El Salvador.

Assisted pre-school educators in planning and leading workshops for parents. Gathered socio-economic information on children's families. Visited homes and planned registration process. Sponsored by Mennonite Central Committee.

January 1992 - December 1994: US - El Salvador Liaison, Christian Base Communities of El Salvador, (CEBES) San Salvador, El Salvador.

Received visiting groups, facilitated sister-community relationships, translated. Sponsored by Mennonite Central Committee.

July 1990 - December 1991: Human Rights Educator, Witness For Peace, Guatemala City and Santiago Atitlán. Guatemala.

Helped establish first Witness for Peace program in Guatemala, led human rights delegations, translated, wrote articles and gathered information on human rights violations. Accompanied community of Santiago Atitlán after army massacre.

Worked with various organizations while preparing to go to Central America. Administrative work, research, translation and lobbying.

Interviewed Spanish-speaking clients and prepared immigration cases for acceptance under the 1986 Amnesty Law.

Directed community survey. Planned and led programs to benefit neighborhood Hispanic community. Began English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

Developed and led programs for Hispanic women including ESL, sewing, health and exercise programs. Through United Methodist US-2 Program.

• Co-author/editor of Like the Dew that Waters the Grass: Words from Haitian Women with Marie M. B. Racine (EPICA, 1998), Never Again a World Without Us: Voices of Mayan Women in Chiapas, Mexico by Teresa Ortiz (EPICA, 1999), and Borderland Theology with Jerry Gil (EPICA, 2003).
